Uncapped · Week 4
You find it by serving, and the people around you help you see it
Leader Note
This week, your group will hear a push toward serving to discover your gifts. You might feel like you don’t know every team well enough to talk about them. That’s okay. We don’t expect you to. You don’t lead your group because you’re an expert. You lead it to be an encouragement, and we get to partner with you and your group in this. If someone isn’t sure where to start, they can choose “unsure” on the Join a Team page, and First Impressions will meet with them.
When someone isn’t sure where to serve, I (Nick) point them to First Impressions. Every team that serves on a Sunday connects through there in some way, so it’s a great introduction to the church. You get to see all the teams and what makes Hoboken Grace special. If someone has a heart for kids or students, point them straight to Grace Kids or VIBE.
Central Theme
There’s no test for your spiritual gift. You find it by stepping in and serving, the people around you help you see it, and you grow it by leaning into what God is already using.
It all starts with grace. Jesus served us first, and the gift He gives you is meant to reach other people through you.

Serving Conversation
Ten minutes of hearing where people already serve, which does more than any announcement you could make
Watch the messageDiscovering Your Gift · YouTubeLast week we learned that every follower of Jesus has been given a spiritual gift. This weekend we asked the obvious next question: how do you find yours? We’d love a test that tells us, but there isn’t one. Finding your gift works more like growing than taking a quiz, and it only happens with other people. Scripture says the body grows “as each part does its work” (). You won’t find where you fit from the outside. You find it by stepping in and serving, even if your first spot isn’t your forever spot.
Once you’re in, the people around you start to see things you can’t. Something that feels ordinary to you might be the very thing God uses in someone else’s life. Sometimes it’s even the thing you’d call a weakness. That’s why it takes other people saying it out loud. And when a gift starts to show, the goal isn’t to do more. It’s to do better at what God is already using. So tonight’s question isn’t only “What’s my gift?” It’s “Who helped me see it, and who can I do that for?”
Pick the questions that fit your group tonight. You do not have to cover them all. How the questions work.
Signed Up
Sometimes the best things start with someone else’s idea. A boss, a friend, a parent who signed you up without asking.
What is something someone else signed you up for that you ended up enjoying?
Clip 14:29 Being told greeting wasn’t his gift was the start of finding out what was.
Stepping Inside
Read together.
The body grows “as each part does its work.” Not some parts. Each part. This weekend we heard that you won’t find where you fit from the outside.
Where in your life do you feel most like a participant, not a spectator? What got you there?
Clip 13:25 You find how you’re gifted as you serve, not before.
Power in Weakness
Read together.
When have you seen God use someone in a place where they felt weak? Maybe it was you.
Clip 18:05 Sometimes your gift shows up in something you don’t think you’re good at.
Do Better, Not More
In , the author tells a young leader to “fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you.” That doesn’t mean signing up for six teams. It means going deeper where God is already using you.
When have you gone all in on one thing instead of adding more? What came of it?
Clip 27:43 Don’t do more, do better, and lean into what you know you’re gifted in.
Words That Stuck
Gifts often show up in small moments. A prayer that changed a week, a welcome that made a room feel safe, a word that built someone up.
Think of a time someone’s words, prayers, or welcome stuck with you. What made it land?
Clip 23:19 One greeter’s hello felt like your grandmother welcoming you home.
It Seems Like
We often see God work through someone and never tell them. You don’t have to name their gift. Just say what happened when they showed up. The author of Ephesians calls it “speaking the truth in love” (), and if the person you’re thinking of isn’t here tonight, text them.
Who in this group could you finish this for: “It seems like when you ___, God ___”?
Clip 22:31 You don’t have to say it’s their gift, just say what you’ve seen.
If there's time, start by sharing prayer requests. If you're short on time, start a text thread to collect them.
Each one is written to paste into your group text. Copy brings the full link with it.

Want to find where you fit? Every team at Hoboken Grace is on one page, and if you’re not sure where to start, just choose “unsure” and someone from First Impressions will help you find your spot.
