Uncapped · Week 5
Growth comes from showing up consistently, not from big moments
Leader Note
The Community team has been working hard to make our dinner group tools easier to use. This week we updated the Experience Plan, so you no longer have to print it out and bring it to group. Your group can fill it out on their phones at dinnergroups.com/experience-plan, then share it with the group or save it for themselves.
Take ten minutes this week to cover the Experience Plan with your group. If you’re not sure how to lead it, the Experience Plan blueprint walks you through it.
We’re still building and improving these tools. If you have an idea or a suggestion, let us know at dinnergroups@hobokengrace.com.
Central Theme
Consistent obedience is what leads to growth. Inspiration and knowledge alone don’t. So the question this week is simple: what do I already know God is asking me to do?
It starts with grace. God already showed up for us, and showing up for Him is our response, not a way to earn His approval.

The tool your group uses to name one step forward, and the night you introduce it
Watch the messageTraining · YouTubeThis week we asked the question: what do I already know God is asking me to do? For some of us, a few things came to mind right away. We were reminded that growth doesn’t come from inspiration or from learning more. It comes from consistent obedience. In , the author tells a young leader to train himself to be godly, and puts that right next to physical training. Both work the same way. You get stronger by showing up again and again, especially on the days you don’t feel like it. We can’t force growth, but showing up consistently makes room for it.
Then we looked at Daniel. In , a new law makes prayer to anyone but the king punishable by death, and Daniel goes home and prays three times a day, “just as he had done before.” We usually read that as proof of his great character. But it may be the other way around. Years of ordinary, daily prayer built the character that held up in the lions’ den. God shut the lions’ mouths, and in the king sends word across his entire empire about the living God. That all started with one person who kept showing up. We don’t have to chase the big moment. We just have to keep showing up, and trust God with the rest.
Pick the questions that fit your group tonight. You do not have to cover them all. How the questions work.
Barely Made It Out
Races, hikes that ran longer than promised, moving days, workouts that humbled you. Everybody has one they still tell stories about.
What’s the hardest physical thing you’ve ever done and lived to tell about?
Clip 8:01 Missing one day in the gym never set you back just a day. It makes a good bridge out of the icebreaker.
Small Rhythms
Most of who we are wasn’t built in big moments. It came from things we did over and over, often without thinking much about them.
What small rhythm in your life has slowly shaped who you are?
Clip 5:12 Inspiration and knowledge don’t lead to growth. Consistent obedience does.
What Kind of Shape
Read together.
The author tells a young leader to train himself to be godly, and puts it right next to physical training. Your body and your spirit both get stronger the same way, by showing up. Be honest here. This is a check-in, not a test.
If your spirit had to run a race today, what kind of shape do you think it would be in?
Clip 11:20 Think of your spiritual journey as training, and of yourself as an athlete.
Afraid and Still Trusting
Read together and discuss the next two questions.
It’s easy to picture Daniel calm in the lions’ den. He probably wasn’t. He likely thought he was going to die. Verse 23 tells us that no wound was found on him “because he had trusted in his God.”
When has trusting God felt hardest for you, even when you knew He was good?
Clip 19:36 Put yourself in the story. Daniel probably wasn’t smiling on the way into the lions’ den.
Seen From the Outside
Daniel didn’t do anything spectacular. He just kept praying the way he always had. Even the king who signed the law could see it, and he calls Daniel’s God the one “whom you serve continually.”
Whose steady faith have you noticed from the outside, and what did it show you?
Clip 22:23 Because one person kept showing up, a whole empire heard about God.
Make Room for It
Daniel’s consistency didn’t happen by accident. He had a room, a window and a time of day, and he kept showing up there.
What would your version of Daniel’s upstairs room look like this week?
Clip 27:24 Is there something you need to put in place so you can keep doing what God has asked?
If there's time, start by sharing prayer requests. If you're short on time, start a text thread to collect them.
Each one is written to paste into your group text. Copy brings the full link with it.
