Leader Context

This one is easy to skip and worth doing.

Do not assume your group understands what is expected of them in a discussion. Most people have either never done this or have done a version of it that made them feel dumb. Twenty minutes up front changes the next ten weeks.

The rhythm we call Common Growth Night centers on one question:

How are you applying what we talked about on Sunday?

That sounds small. It is not. It is what James 1:22 is after.

Read to your group

Each time we meet, we make space to connect, to encourage each other, and to grow. One of the most helpful rhythms in our group is what we call a Common Growth Night, where we center the conversation on one question.

How are you applying what we talked about on Sunday?

That might sound like a small question. It opens up deep conversation, it challenges our faith, and it helps us move forward. These nights are built to help us do what James 1:22 says.

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

So here is how we do this, and why.

Four guidelines for the conversation.

Grace over legalism. Our actions are a response to God’s love, not a way to earn it. This is not about perfect answers or performance. It is about practicing faith together.

No guilt allowed. Guilt has no place here. We believe in grace, not shame. Everyone grows at a different pace, and we celebrate progress over perfection.

Scripture has authority. We are learning to trust God’s Word as the foundation for our lives. Bring it into the conversation. If you are not sure how, ask someone to help you explore what it says.

Let love lead. Our conversations are guided by love. This is a space to listen, support, and speak life into one another.

How we walk this out. We reflect on the message. We talk about application. We support each other.

Every time someone shares, encourages, or listens in love, we are practicing what it means to grow together. Those moments matter. Do not rush past them.

God works through real conversation. So be present. Ask questions. Listen well. We grow best when we grow together.

Questions

Reflect on the message

Start wide so everyone has a way in.

What stood out to you?

Was there a moment that challenged or encouraged you?

Talk about application

This is the whole point of the night.

How can you live this out this week?

Is there a step you feel led to take?

Support each other

Never skip this. It is where the group becomes a group.

How can we encourage or pray for you this week?

What would support from this group look like for you?
